The
back of the museum as you enter the wood. Note the shell hole in the
foreground and behind that some examples of ordnance.

Inside
one of the trenches. It is a good idea to wear sensible shoes or
even take wellington boots as even in the summer areas of the trenches can
be muddy and wet.
|
Here
you can easily see how the trench lines were constructed using a zig-zag
pattern.
|
The trench arrangement prevented the occupants from receiving fire from
either side should the position be invaded. This also protected the
soldiers from shell or motar explosions.

one of the tunnels. Remember to take torch with you! These tunnels were
covered trenches providing cover for troop movements.

Some
ordnance outside the museum in the wood area.

A short walk up the road
from the museum takes you to the Canadian Memorial at Hill 62 or 'Mount
Sorrel'. Mount Sorrel is actually just off to the south.
Excellent views of the surrounding area can be seen from here, including
the town of Ypres in the distance off the right hand side (left on the
photograph).
