Free Tickets available for National Event Commemorating the 60th anniversary of WWII

WWII 60th Anniversary CommemorationsFree tickets are available to join thousands of other veterans attending a special commemorative event in Horse Guards Parade , London, on Sunday 10th July 2005.

Anyone who served in the armed forces or who played an active part in the Home Front during the Second World War is eligible to apply. Tickets will be issued in pairs so that a carer can accompany the veteran to London.

Minister for Veterans, Ivor Caplin said:

"The message is simple. Apply for tickets now or miss the opportunity to participate in what promises to be one of highlights of the year. I would encourage all veterans of WWII to join in the 60th commemorations whether in the Capital or in their own village, town or city - to celebrate the end of the conflict and to remember those fallen comrades who made the ultimate sacrifice."

The Horse Guards Parade show promises to be a spectacular reflective and entertaining presentation staged in front of Her Majesty the Queen, and 10,000 veterans, family members and carers. The show will start at 2.30pm, finishing around 4.00pm with a flypast of vintage wartime aircraft including a poppy drop from a Lancaster Bomber.

The event will bring to a conclusion to a week-long commemorative experience starting on the 4th July, the first day of a new Veterans Awareness Week, and incorporating a Veterans Centre, Living Museum and other displays in St James's Park. Commemorative events are also being held across the country, including special services in Edinburgh, Cardiff and Belfast.

To apply for tickets to the London event, use the Application Form available from the MOD's WWII Anniversary website, or from the Veterans Agency websit. Alternatively contact the Veterans Agency telephone helpline, 0800 169 2277 between 8.15am and 5.15pm, Monday to Thursday and between 8.15am and 4.30pm on Fridays. Veterans are advised to apply early as demand is likely to be high. Tickets will be despatched by the 15th June 2005.
